Coffee Is NOT Rocket Science is a barista course divided into 3-hour modules, where you can learn ON DEMAND about what interests you the most. Our trusted baristas teach classes and can be scheduled in groups of 2 to 6 people. For more information, please get in touch with us. The available modules are:

Module 1: Specialty Coffee Basics

In this module, you will learn about:

  • The origin of coffee and its journey around the world.

  • How coffee arrived in Costa Rica and the differences between the cooperative and micro-benefit models.

  • The difference between commercial coffee and specialty coffee.

  • Why Costa Rican coffee is so well-known worldwide?

  • Coffee processing, varieties, and regions of Costa Rican coffee.

  • Tasting of specialty coffees from different regions, processes, and varieties.

    Total: 3 hours (1.5 hours theory, 1.5 hours practical).

Module 2: Filtered Coffee, Tools, and Variables for Optimal Home Extraction

In this module, you will learn about:

  • What is an infusion and what are the different types?

  • Tools for making infusion coffee at home.

  • Variables that can be controlled during the extraction process.

  • Under-extraction, over-extraction, and optimal extraction. What they are and how to identify them.

  • How to make decisions when creating a recipe.

  • Practice with extreme variables.
